About Missouri Valley Conference (Yankton Area)

South Dakota Junior Football is an instructional participation tackle football program for area youth in 2nd through 8th grade. This organization was established in 1969 by a number of Sioux Falls business leaders and parents who wanted their children to better learn and understand the game of football before entering high school. These parents went out and obtained financial support from the Sioux Falls business community through donations and sponsorships to purchase equipment to start this youth football program. Thousands of volunteer hours have gone into organizing and coaching since 1969 to get this program where it is today. Over 2,800 youth from Sioux Falls and surrounding communities participate annually in the South Dakota Junior Football program which is managed and operated by all volunteers. South Dakota Junior Football Inc is a South Dakota non-profit corporation in good standing with an IRS designation as a 501C3 Corporation.

In 2012 South Dakota Junior Football Inc. expanded its youth tackle football program with a satellite location in Yankton, SD. The Yankton location of South Dakota Junior Football, the Missouri River Conferance, has allowed for the expansion of youth tackle football into new communities in southeastern South Dakota and northeastern Nebraska that are within one hour driving time of Yankton.

6 Peewee Division, 3rd and 4th grade teams, and 6 Junior Division, 5th and 6th grade teams, participated during our 2013 season of youth tackle football in the Missouri River Conferance. All games are played on two 100 yard regulation fields in Yankton, SD. Springfield, Tyndall, Tabor make up the Bon Homme School District that participates as did many players from the Crofton, NE. area along with the players from in and around Yankton.

Other potential towns for the Missouri River Conferance in the Yankton area include Avon, Scotland, Menno, Gayville, Volin, Irene, Wakonda, Vermillion, Elk Point in South Dakota and Hartington, Neb. just to name a few.

The Yankton Youth Football organization has been in existence for over 40 years administering a flag football program for their area youth. These new members of South Dakota Junior Football share the same objective, to teach the basics of the game of football, sportsmanship and teamwork in a positive encouraging environment that will assist all participants in improving self-worth and confidence.

Many of the Yankton Youth Football volunteers now serve as South Dakota Junior Football-Missouri River Committee members. Some of these Missouri River Committee members are also serving as Board of Directors of South Dakota Junior Football Inc. to assure continuity in the South Dakota Junior Football-Missouri River program.

The 3rd and 4th grade Peewee Division and the 5th and 6th grade Junior Division are available in Yankton for the 2014 season.

All players are placed onto teams by address with other players from the same geographic area. Team practices are held in these same geographic areas. The number of teams participating will determine how many regular season games will be played in Yankton.

Two high school regulation size fields will be used in Yankton for games. The South Dakota Junior Football-Misssouri River teams will be included in the Post Season Championship Playoff Bracket of South Dakota Junior Football.

Sign up today for an exciting 2015 season of South Dakota Junior Football!
